Support the tales

Every tale here is free, and will stay free. Each one takes real work: finding the scholarship, checking what is actually known against what is merely repeated, and then trying to write it as a life rather than a fact. The sources are listed at the end of every tale so you can see that work for yourself.

There is no paywall, no members-only chapter, no ending you have to pay to reach. If a tale was worth something to you, you can leave a tip for the storyteller — and if not, please just keep reading. Being read is the point.

Whatever feels right. A few dollars is a kindness; nothing at all is completely fine. It is a thank-you for tales already written, not a purchase — there is nothing to unlock, and nothing is held back from anyone.

Other ways to help — all of them free

Honestly, these matter more than money. This is a small site written in Japanese, finding its first readers in English.

• Tell one person. A single link sent to someone who would love it is worth more than a hundred impressions.
• Follow the storyteller — each tale is posted as it appears.
• If something is wrong — a mistranslation, a date, a piece of history I have bent too far — tell me. Corrections are welcome and get made.
